My Story

Some of the most important lessons I ever learned came from a season I never expected.

I have spent my life building things - an art gallery, a professional painting career, a classroom full of young creatives, and a vision for what financial freedom could look like for everyday people. I have always been an entrepreneur at heart, someone who sees possibility where others see obstacles. But it was not until I lost the financial cushion that I truly learned what wealth-building really requires.

Before Rwanda, I experienced what felt like business failure - and at the time, it was genuinely traumatic. Everything I had poured myself into felt like it had crumbled. I was exhausted, creatively depleted, and searching for a way back to myself. Then something unexpected happened. I won an artist sabbatical through Exodus Summit, hosted by Stephanie and Rashidah - and that gift changed the entire trajectory of my life.

I went to Rwanda to reconnect with my true north. To heal my creative soul. To find out who I was on the other side of what felt like collapse.

What I found there was far greater than healing.

For two years, I immersed myself in African culture, built relationships across the continent, and developed a deep understanding of the economic landscape that connects Africa to the rest of the world. Rwanda showed me resilience on a scale that recalibrated everything I thought I knew about resourcefulness and community. I arrived broken open and left completely transformed.

When I returned to the United States, I came back with a full heart and an empty bank account.

I did what I had to do. I drove Uber. I meal prepped every single week. I created spreadsheets and budgets down to the last penny because every penny mattered. I could not travel. I could not splurge. I lived on a teacher's salary alone and made it work through sheer discipline and focus. That season was hard - genuinely hard - and it was also the greatest financial education I ever received.

Nobody taught me those lessons in a classroom. I learned them at 6am behind a steering wheel, in a grocery store with a calculator, and at a kitchen table with a spreadsheet open and a vision that refused to die.

That experience became the foundation of Wealthy and Rooted.

I created Wealthy and Rooted because I know what it feels like to account for every dollar while carrying a bigger dream. I know what it feels like to rebuild. I know what it feels like to sit at the intersection of ambition and financial reality, trying to figure out how to make both work. That is exactly the space I built this community to serve.

Today I bring that lived experience together with 10 years of entrepreneurial leadership, an MBA in entrepreneurship in progress, and a long-term vision of helping people and businesses build real, lasting wealth - including across African markets where extraordinary opportunity continues to grow.

I am not a financial educator who learned this from a textbook. I learned it from life. And I built Wealthy and Rooted so you would not have to learn it the hard way alone.
